Helping families
GET SLEEP

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will my child cry?

Yes. Making a big change to anyone’s current sleep habits will definitely be met with some protest. The same will be true for your child. However, the amount of crying really depends on the individual child and their personality and temperament. While tears of frustration are almost guaranteed, we will do everything we can to set your child up for success. We will make sure their schedule is on point, their routine is void of any missteps, and that their brain and body are ready for sleep. When sleep training happens in a loving environment with mom or dad right there for reassurance and comfort, then you can be assured that your child will feel secure and loved, not scared or abandoned.

What is your sleep training approach?

I generally start with a stay in the room method. This means you will be mostly present with your child as they learn to fall asleep in their sleep space without their sleep crutch. This is suitable for most children although sometimes a child does better with less intervention and in those cases we will take the child’s lead.

What does the process look like?

Step 1: Free 15-minute initial call
Step 2: Fill out your questionnaire and pay your invoice
Step 3: We will schedule your 1-hour consultation to discuss your sleep plan
Step 4: We will determine your start night
Step 5: We will work together generally for 2-3 weeks
Step 6: Brief wrap-up call

What does the program cost?

Depends on the specific needs you have, but a good place to start is our solutions page so you can read more!

What if my child is in daycare and daycare won’t follow the sleep plan?

I always send my families with a detailed nap sheet for daycare. The advice coming directly from me is usually well-received and accommodations are made. In instances where daycare refuses to work with us, we simply have to let go. Children are generally able to compartmentalize and understand that we do things this way at daycare and this way at home. You will need to be that much more consistent at home and will need to understand that progress may be a little slower. But that’s okay!

What if this program doesn’t work for my child?

You have likely tried everything at this point so we understand your skepticism but rest-assured that our success rate is extremely high! The two reasons that the program may not work for you are:

1. You are not following the sleep plan entirely and consistently

2. There is an underlying medical reason that your child is not sleeping well

If you are committed and are following your sleep plan, I am confident that this WILL work for you and I will stick with you until we reach your goals.

When is the right time to sleep train?

I’m not sure if there is ever a perfect time to sleep train but if you are at the end of your rope and are ready to do it, then go for it! You will need to carve out a couple weeks where you are in your normal schedule- avoid traveling and missed bedtimes. I would also avoid having a babysitter at bedtime for the first several days of training. Many families choose to begin on a Friday night.

Does sleep training mean my baby willhave to drop night feeds?

Not necessarily. Many babies under 6 months of age or lower on the growth charts will still need a feed or 2 and we can work with that. However, many babies will naturally drop their night feeds on their own once they have gained strong independent sleep skills.

Will I be bound to my house?

You will need to be home for as many naps as possible (aside from daycare) and home for bed time during the sleep training phase. If unavoidable, an on the go nap here and there is no biggie. Once sleep training is finished and your child is sleeping well, I want my families to enjoy a normal active lifestyle! I preach having an 80/20 balance. During our wrap-up call, we will discuss future sleep needs and how to stay on track long-term while still enjoying life.

Why should I choose to hire a sleep consultant?

Sleep is not a luxury, it is a necessity!  Sleep is hugely important for our children’s growth and development. As parents today we have so many decisions to make and so much information to muddle through in order to decide what is best for our child. I understand that all children are unique and a cookie-cutter approach doesn’t work for everyone. I also know that leaving your child alone to cry it out for as long as it takes isn’t a realistic solution for most families and it is n't necessary either. I want you to know that we can get your child sleeping well using gentler methods that are customized for your child and your family. Remember, becoming a parent does NOT mean you have to endure months or years on end of sleepless nights. If you rock your child or lay with them for an hour before they fall asleep, drive around the block to get your baby napping, get up for multiple night wakings to feed or assist your child back to sleep, return a toddler back to their bed 500 times, return a pacifier to your baby over and over, and the list goes on…..then I can help! Through my private consultations, I'll take you from this to a child who will fall asleep independently and sleep through the night. There is no substitute for a good night's sleep and I would love the opportunity to help you get yours back! Get started by booking your free 15-minute call.
